Pampered lifestyle in Dubai

Some say that people in Dubai have a pampered lifestyle. Proof is in the picture above - those spoiled farmers in rural UAE with their satellite TV.

They'll be comin' down the mountain

After a windy night on the mountain we came back down to the coastal road and enjoyed the views on our way back to Dubai.

Mountain camping in May

Up and up we drove and we watched the Pajaro’s temperature gauge to see the temperature getting lower and lower. We found a nice flat spot, kicked out the existing occupants and set up camp. Robyn had of course outdone herself and we were lucky enough to try some of her beef stew and chocolate oranges. The spot ended up being cooler than we thought as a very strong wind picked up in the night and had our tents rustling in the wind. The wind was almost strong enough to carry away the exhaust from Dunia’s truck as she charged her mobile phone for late-night phone calls.

Lunch in the Acacia Forest

In our search of a place to set up camp we visited some of the beautiful areas we have been to before – Khor Najd and the Acacia Forest. Both of these areas were much too hot to camp. We stopped for a bite to eat at the Acacia Forest and decided to journey up further into the mountains to see if we could find a suitable/cooler location.

Visiting the Musandam for May camping

It is getting later in the year so we have to drive further to find a cooler camping spot. A group of us decided to cross the border to Oman to seek cooler temperatures in the altitude of the Musandam mountains. Along the coastal road we came across evidence of an avalanche. Rocks fell from the steep cliffs bordering the narrow coastal road – scary.
